A run capacitor is used to continuously adjust current or phase shift to a motor’s windings in an effort to optimise the motor’s torque and efficiency performance. Unlike the start capacitor, it is designed for continuous duty.
These capacitors may lose some of their capacitance value over time. This is normal wear-and-tear. You can compare it to a rechargeable battery losing its capacity. However, repeating failures of the run capacitor is often an indication of other issues within the heat pump. Contact us for assistance in this case.
